After rapper Kendrick Lamar delivered one of last year’s best albums, Good Kid M.A.A.D. City, I got to know his first album Section.80, which was released in 2011. While Section.80 may not be the modern classic his second album has become, it definitely put Kendrick Lamar in the spotlights as one of hip-hop’s biggest talents.
The track that amazes me the most, is one of the last songs: Ab-Soul’s Outro. This song, featuring fellow Top Dawg Entertainment label signee Ab-Soul, is one psychedelic jazz-hiphop fusion. That said, probably one of the best jazz and hip-hop mixes ever. Producer Terrace Martin, who also worked for Snoop, Busta and Stevie Wonder, did an amazing job, by keeping this track very raw and still very suitable as a hip-hop track.
